Decorating styles have trends and so do renovation and remodeling projects. According to a recent member poll by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI), major renovation projects are still hampered by the economy but taking care of smaller projects at home seems to be on the rise – including bathroom remodeling projects.

Here are five bathroom remodeling trends predicted for 2011:

  1. Warmer tones and colors are becoming popular again!  Earth tones are showing up more than the white, minimalist designs.  The trend is cozy, not rustic!
  2. Metallic features, fixtures, and accessories are complimenting the warmer tones.  Oil rubbed or aged bronze fixtures are everywhere.
  3. Of course, going green is still high on the list.  Bamboo floors and energy efficient upgrades are great selections.
  4. With all the stress of the world, it’s no surprise that people are looking for more relaxing, calm spaces at home.  Spa or zen-like bathroom designs are not uncommon.  And there’s an increase in requests for a decked out shower with steam, body sprays, etc.
  5. Planning for the years ahead with easily accessible bathrooms and features is becoming more and more common in bathroom remodeling projects.  Features like hand-held showers, easy opening cabinets and wider doorways help individuals be prepared for a time when they may need additional assistance.

Remodeling your bathroom may be on the list of smaller projects that really can’t be put off any longer – due to space needs, repairs, or maintenance.  While the economy may force some to postpone major, high-dollar projects, in their home, bathroom renovations are the hottest home project predicted for 2011.

And of course, making sure you find a reputable contractor requires means you be even more diligent about checking references, licenses and insurance, and getting a signed contract before beginning any home renovation project.  Your hard earned dollars are even more important these days!
